Dental Implant Restorative Course with Mark Skimming

Course Description

Implant dentistry is a prosthetically driven treatment option, with the increase in uptake of private treatment, never has it been more essential for the modern GDP to learn how to restore and maintain implants.

This modular course has been designed to reflect the demands of today’s patient. Over the duration of the course delegates will increase their knowledge of the latest restorative techniques and materials and learn how to develop their restorative skills and confidence in offering implant dentistry to their patients. Acquiring the skills to successfully restore dental implants is a fantastic grounding for those GDP’s wanting to progress and learn how to surgically place dental implants.

Learning Outcomes

Throughout the course delegates will:

  • increase their knowledge and understanding on what a dental implant is, what type of treatment options are available and what the benefits of each of these treatment options bring to the patient
  • learn how to speak about dental implants to their patients with confidence
  • understand which components are available to restore an implant and at what stage during the treatment each component is used
  • gain experience of restoring implants through hands on exercises (e.g. improving skills in impression taking, understanding restorative workflows)
  • participate in live surgical demonstrations
  • understand how to manage occlusion and resolve complications

Course Content

  • Module 1: Understanding implants, treatment planning and case selection
  • Module 2: Simple case restorations and the restoration workflow. Impression taking including lab technician perspective and prescription.
  • Module 3: Implant solutions for larger spaces including full arch options
  • Module 4: Implant maintenance and advanced technology including digital integration

Dr Mark Skimming

Mark is the principal at private practice Dentistry on the Square in Glasgow, Scotland. His clinical focus is on surgical and restorative implant treatments utilising lasers as well as cosmetically focussed orthodontics
to aid restorative and implant dentistry. He graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2005 and soon after graduation completed the MFGDP examinations from the Royal College of Surgeons in England. Further from here he completed a post-graduate Diploma in restorative dentistry at Manchester dental school and a Masters of Science in restorative dentistry at Leeds University.
Mark is the West of Scotland Director for the Dentinal Tubules study club co-founder and remains co-director for the group. He lectures for both Bredent and BioHorizons implant systems as well as C-Fast orthodontics throughout the UK.
